This study explores the crucial role of Second Temple literature in bridging the historical and theological gap between the Old and New Testaments. Such literature serves as a vital historical source for understanding the often-overlooked intertestamental period in biblical interpretation. Significant events – such as the rededication of the Second Temple and the dynamics of conflict between Jesus and the Pharisees—can only be fully understood in light of the historical and cultural contexts reflected in these writings. In exegetical studies, grasping the socio-cultural background is essential, as the New Testament texts did not emerge in a historical vacuum but were shaped by the realities of their time. Furthermore, Second Temple literature is rich in allusions to and quotations from the Old Testament, offering valuable insights for textual and canonical studies of the Hebrew Bible. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls has further enhanced scholarly understanding of the textual and theological conditions toward the end of this period. This research asserts that Second Temple literature is not merely a source of historical data but also a crucial instrument for understanding theological transitions and socio-religious developments during the intertestamental era. The novelty of this study lies in its emphasis on the contribution of Second Temple literature as a hermeneutical foundation for interpreting the dynamics of Jewish religious identity and the emergence of the early Christian community in a more comprehensive manner.
